Tetracaine CAS 94-24-6 uses
Tetracaine is an amino-ester class local anesthetic. It has been in use for a variety of purposes since the early 1930s, but its most common use today is as a topical ophthalmic anesthetic for short procedures on the surface of the eye, as well as the ears and nose. Spinal anesthesia is also another indication.
Tetracaine CAS 94-24-6 mechanism of action
Tetracaine is an ester-type anesthetic and produces local anesthesia by blocking the sodium ion channels involved in the initiation and conduction of neuronal impulses. Tetracaine is rapidly hydrolyzed in the plasma; therefore, volume of distribution could not be determined.
Tetracaine CAS 94-24-6 indications
Ophthalmic tetracaine is indicated for the for procedures requiring a rapid and short- acting topical ophthalmic anesthetic. The combination lidocaine and tetracaine patch is indicated for local dermal analgesia for superficial dermatological procedures and superficial venous access.
Tetracaine vs lidocaine
The key difference between Lidocaine and Tetracaine is that lidocaine is a suitable anesthetic for patients who are sensitive to ester-type anesthetics, whereas Tetracaine is an ester-type anesthetic useful as an anesthetic.
